Wireless sensing and identification based on radar cross section variability measurement of passive electromagnetic sensors

چکیده
In this paper, we present the wirelessmeasurement of various physical quantities from the analysis of the radar cross section variability of passive electromagnetic sensors. The technique uses a millimeter frequency-modulated continuous-wave radar for both remote sensing and wireless identification of sensors. Long reading ranges (up to some decameters) are reached at the expense of poor measurement resolution (typically 10 %). A review of recent experimental results is reported for illustration purposes.

متن کاملRecent Advances in the Wireless Reading of Passive Sensors
The remote measurement of physical or chemical quantities from the wireless reading of active electronic devices with integrated sensors is no more a major issue. Such devices with sensing, identification and communication capabilities can be used as nodes of a network and, more generally, part of the Internet of Things. Passive (batteryless) sensors could be used as sensing nodes in order to e...
متن کاملWireless chipless passive electromagnetic transducers for SHM applications
The energy autonomy of wireless sensors is crucial especially for buried or inaccessible sensors that are often the case in SHM applications. This problem can be overcome by using classical passive sensors (RFID or SAW sensors) but they suffer from a problem of low reading distances (<10m). For few years emerged a new kind of passive sensors using electromagnetic transducers, combining very hig...
متن کاملAcoustic Transducers as Passive Cooperative Targets for Wireless Sensing of the Sub-Surface World: Challenges of Probing with Ground Penetrating RADAR
Passive wireless transducers are used as sensors, probed by a RADAR system. A simple way to separate the returning signal from the clutter is to delay the response, so that the clutter decays before the echoes are received. This can be achieved by introducing a fixed delay in the sensor design. Acoustic wave transducers are ideally suited as cooperative targets for passive, wireless sensing. Th...
متن کاملPassive wireless antenna sensor for strain and crack sensing – electromagnetic modeling, simulation, and testing
This research investigates a passive wireless antenna sensor designed for strain and crack sensing. When the antenna experiences deformation, antenna shape changes, causing shift in electromagnetic resonance frequency of the antenna. A radio frequency identification (RFID) chip is adopted for antenna signal modulation, so that a wireless reader can easily distinguish backscattered sensor signal...
